Our education programs have been developed to prepare you to become a teacher through a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge.  Beginning as early as your first semester, you will spend time in classrooms where you will work collaboratively with community and faculty members to better understand the far-reaching impacts of generational poverty; where you will be encouraged to think creatively in the design of flexible learning environments; and where you will develop the leadership skills that will guide your journey toward a future in education.

Belmont’s student-centered Christian environment and small class sizes facilitate self-reflection and the development of the skills necessary to becoming an exemplary educator. Under the guidance of an experienced group of professionals, you will be encouraged to develop the unique gifts you possess that have led you to pursue a future in the challenging and rewarding field of education.

Licensure

Belmont University's teacher education programs meet the state educational requirements for educator licensure in the state of Tennessee. Teacher candidates who complete an educator preparation program at Belmont but wish to teach in another state will need to apply for licensure in the intended state. The state of Tennessee has signed both the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement which provides reciprocity in other states. For more information about the process of becoming a certified teacher in a state other than Tennessee, contact the state department of education or state educator professional licensing board in that state.

Click here to view a list of member states of the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement who have signed reciprocity agreements with Tennessee.
