2 - Register for an Audition

An Audition or Portfolio Review is required for entrance into the BFA program in Theatre and Dance. All BFA candidates will have an Entrance Interview conducted by Theatre and Dance faculty. This will probe the candidate’s experiences, expectations, goals, and commitment to a career in the entertainment industry.

Performance Auditions are required for candidates for admission to the BFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Performance.

Portfolio Reviews are required for candidates for admission to the BFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Production DesignDirecting, and Theatre Education. These portfolio reviews primarily happen on our audition days or via in-person appointment or electronic submission.

After submitting the Belmont University application for undergraduate admission, applicants will receive an email about registering for an audition. Choose an on-campus audition date that works best for you.

Our audition days are:

  • November 3, 2018
  • January 12, 2019
  • February 9, 2019
  • February 23, 2019

If you are unable to attend any of these Audition Days, you may choose to schedule an in-person appointment or submit an audition video or electronic portfolio submission. To schedule an appointment for an audition time or portfolio review in-person, contact Joann Rosenbaum. Students are strongly encouraged to audition in-person; however, video auditions and electronic portfolio submissions can be submitted via Acceptd at https://app.getacceptd.com/belmont.  All video performance auditions must include audio and video. Video auditions and electronic portfolio submissions should be submitted prior to July 31. 

3 - Compile a Portfolio or Audition

All BFA candidates should bring a resume of previous entertainment experience. This resume should include any pertinent theatrical experience from high school, community theatre, and/or professional theatre. Please include any non-theatrical entertainment experience as well.

 

Portfolio

Portfolio Reviews are required for candidates for admission to the BFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Production Design, Directing, and Theatre Education.

  • Portfolio Reviews for Production Design include representative work of design, and/or technical experience. Your portfolio should contain any combination of drawings, renderings, drafting examples, CAD drawings, light plots, and/or photographs. 
  • Portfolio Reviews for Directing should include any theatre work especially anything related to directing, assistant directing, stage management, or production management. Your portfolio should contain any combination of directing books, research, prompt books, directing or management paperwork, designs, drawings, production photos, or any other theatre related materials.
  • Portfolio Reviews for Theatre Education should include any theatre work especially anything related to education, directing, assistant directing, design, stage management, or production management. Your portfolio should contain any combination of education curriculum packages, directing books, research, prompt books, directing or management paperwork, designs, drawings, production photos, or any other theatre related materials.
Audition

Performance Auditions are required for candidates for admission to the BFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Performance

  • Performance Auditions consist of the presentation of two contrasting monologues, not to exceed 3 minutes in total time of presentation, prepared in advance by the candidate.

4 - Receive the Admissions Decision

Applicants will be notified of an admissions decision to the BFA program within 2-3 weeks of the audition/portfolio review (dependent on acceptance to Belmont). For further information please look at the Audition FAQ.
